In Book of Cupids, you and your opponents take turns drawing cards and playing them in order to create the best possible five-card hand. The goal is to collect as many points as possible by pairing up cards of the same rank or suit.

The game is played with a regular deck of 52 cards, and the ace is high. The 10, Jack, Queen and King are each worth 10 points, while the 2 through 9 are worth face value. A hand can contain any combination of cards, as long as they are all from the same suit or rank.

To begin the game, each player is dealt five cards face down. The remaining cards are placed in the middle of the table, forming the draw pile. The player who draws the highest card from the deck begins play and must place it face up on the table. This card is known as the starter card.

The player to the left of the starter then takes one card from either the draw pile or from their hand, placing it in front of them on the table. They must then play a card from their hand, following either two specific rules:

1) If the card played matches either rank or suit of the starter card, then they can either put another card down or end their turn; or

2) If they don't have a match, they must pick up another card from either the draw pile or from their hand to continue play.

If a player cannot play any more cards from their hand, then they must pick up a new one from either the draw pile or from their opponent's hand (if they have any). When all players have no cards left in their hands, that individual round ends and whichever player has taken most cards (or all) losses that round and doesn't move onto subsequent ones - similar to Gin Rummy.
